RefugioNorte (NorthShelter, in Spanish) is born from the convergence of very deep vital necessities that I have always tried to avoid in order to complicate, but there it is life and its mysterious ways to remind us that each of us are born with a purpose and some unchosen gifts, because they are given to us, and that I´m learning it´s better not to ignore, because the idea of going place and living life as if we were robots is not fair not cool at all.
The first of these essential calls responds to a need that pushes me to shape and express what I have within because, if I don´t do it, I go against my nature and I wither away. Period.
The second call is an impulse that has always been with me for as long as I can remember and is not other than to explore and think about the relationship between architectural spaces and life itself. Always magnetised by how spaces influence our emotions and behaviour, my career as an architect was cut short at 19 by circumstances beyond my control, but now at 35 I´ve understood that that´s not a reason strong enough to park the call, because in a world oversaturated by soulless images and clichés, I feel that we are a little bit lacking in sensitive looks that are not influenced by passing fashions.
Architectural spaces are the skin that enfold our lives, the stage where unfolds life itself. Where we fall in love, wander and shelter. Where we make peace, dinner and love. Where we pet our dogs, play with our toddlers, take naps, contemplate the world and make more or less far-reaching decisions. They have a subtle power that manifests itself quietly. Good and bad energy Places were we feel good, or not. And all of this is infinitely richer than a pretty picture.
I firmly believe that the mission of an interior designer is not to conceive beautiful images. Its main mission is to create stages where life unfolds, where life happens. Thus, prior to being a designer, a good interiorist must first be a humanist. Understand the human being, its needs, motivations and the relations with its surroundings. Its aspirations and the secrets that lie deep within us. And to understand that there is a TO BE, and there is TO DO.
We´ll discuss spaces, creators, furniture, inhabitants and the verb to inhabit. Human and divine. Sublime and mundane. Thinking above current affairs, because there are others in charge of reporting news and trends.
You can expect little planifications, errors and numerous incoherences, besides infinite authenticity, because RefugioNorte is, in addition to therapy, an escape from perfectionism, control, demands and the eternal discontent they bring with them.
In short, if you don’t unsubscribe right now, from time to time you will be receiving RefugioNorte with reflections on our shelters (material shelters, but also those we cannot see or touch, but can perceive with other senses) that, without taking ourselves too seriously or getting (excessively) transcendental, I hope, will bring you a little bit of joy.
Be happy and thank you for making it this far.
